How to Make Free Phone Calls to Landline Phones

There are some amazingly cheap international call rates available, but sometimes that’s still not quite cheap enough. Believe it or not, you can make free international calls when calling from either a landline or when using VoIP.

Some telecom companies give free calls from your existing home telephone, and to access these free rates you simply need to dial a number before your call in order to connect to their free network. There is no need to change your existing telephone provider or your telephone number.

How Is It Possible For Telecom Companies To Offer Free Phone Calls?

  • Free phone calls to landlines are usually limited to a certain number of calls per day, or the length of the call is limited.
  • Many of the services broadcast adverts before you’re connected and it’s the sale of advertising that pays for the phone calls so that you don’t have to.
  • Some services offer a device which plugs into your phone system and connects you to a free call network. There is usually an initial membership fee or purchase price for the device, and in some cases also a low cost yearly membership fee, but then you have your free phone calls. The calls may be limited to within your country or to certain countries where the phone network is supported.

MagicJack is an example of a telecom service which operates within the USA, and gives free phone calls to the USA and Canada for $19.95 per year. The one-off initial purchase of the MagicJack device is only $40.

Free VoIP to Landline Phone Calls

Calling from one PC on VoIP to another PC on the same VoIP system is always free, but what about those VoIP to landline calls? Yes, it’s possible to make those calls for free too.

Many VoIP services, such as VoipCheap, allow calls to fixed lines in certain countries completely free of charge. The catch is that you have to purchase credit first before you can make those free calls.

Using this method to access free calls is only worthwhile if you need to buy credit anyway.

Say you regularly call an Australian landline, and you’ve found a VoIP service that has very cheap rates to landline phones in Australia, and, they also offer free calls to landline phones in the UK. In this case, it would definitely be worth purchasing credit as you gain cheap calls to Australia with the added bonus of free landline calls to the UK, and possibly several other countries thrown in as well.

Many VoIP services sell credits that don’t expire, so try to avoid those companies that force you to use your credits before a certain date or otherwise lose them.

As you can see, it is possible to make free international phone calls if you don’t mind listening to or viewing adverts or having calls that are limited in frequency or call length. There are also many VoIP services now offering incentives of free calls to certain countries, you just need to shop around to find the service most suited to your needs.
