Fring is a mobile phone application that lets you talk to other Fring users for free, and gives cheaper call rates to local and international numbers. It’s a social network on your mobile phone with many services, including being able to interact with friends on Facebook, Messenger, Twitter, Yahoo and others directly from your mobile phone. Works on the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Fring allows you to put all your friends from different social networks in one friends’ list. You can then see quickly who’s online and contactable. You need to have a mobile device that will support the Fring software (see their website for compatibility) and has internet capability. Works on the iPhone and turns your iPod Touch into a phone.

The more friends you invite to the Fring network, the more free phone calls and free chat messages you can send. You can also send and receive files. All of the Fring services are completely free, your only charges when making calls will be accessing the Fring network, but this is considerably cheaper than making a regular phone call.

You will pay your mobile service provider for 3G, EDGE or GPRS data transfer rather than the cost of a mobile call – this is cheaper – all Fring’s calls are data transfer rather than mobile phone calls. If you’re within a free wifi area, or using your home or office wifi, the connection fees are zero. The Fring website gives the Fring data consumption figures for every platform, so you can work out what your costs will be once you know what you mobile provider’s charges are for data transfer.

You can store your local wifi point access codes in your phone, so that your phone will automatically connect when you enter that wifi area, even if you enter a wifi area you have never used before, but is supplied by the same provider.

You can even make internet calls using any SIP provider, even if your mobile phone doesn’t support SIP. You just need an account with a SIP provider and there is a list of SIP partners on the Fring website.
