Cheap phone call providers...

Jajah

• Use This Service To Call: Internationally (120+ countries).

Using Jajah you can save money on your telephone calls, from landlines and from mobiles. You use your existing phone and there is no contract and no software to download. Jajah has three ways of accessing their cheap rates: Jajah Direct, Jajah Web and Jajah Mobile Web. The service is available in over 20 countries and you can call over 120 countries using their system.

Using Jajah Direct to Make Phone Calls

Jajah basically lets you access VOiP technology using your normal phone. For each person that you want to call you have to initially enter that person’s number in the Jajah website and you will be given a local number. Dial that local number from your landline or mobile and you will be calling an international number at local rates. The local number is always valid for the international telephone number that it’s been allocated to, so save it in your phone and use it again and again. Jajah Direct will work from any phone that you have first registered on their website.

If you don’t have internet access and want to call someone abroad for the first time, you can also do this. Jajah supplies a list of Direct Numbers for many countries. You dial the direct number for the country you want, then dial the international or long distance phone number of your contact and Jajah will connect the call. After the call has ended, you will receive the unique local number for the number you’ve just dialed by sms, which you can then store to use again.

If you use a mobile phone to dial with Jajah, double check that you have a plan that gives you the same rate to call any number in your country. If not, you could be charged a long distance fee rather than a local fee for dialing from a mobile.

Jajah Web

Again this is a way of using VOiP telephony – dialing over the internet – but without downloading software. Simply visit the Jajah website where you can enter your own phone number then the phone number that you want to call, and then press the call button. Jajah will first dial your phone then your contact’s phone number so that you can both talk to each other. So there is no software and no headset, just your normal phone.

Using this service you can also access cheap conference calls, make scheduled calls and send sms.

Jajah Mobile Web

Using your mobile go to the Jajah website ( http://www.jajah.com ) and log in; from there you can simply click on any contact in your address book to make a call direct from your mobile. These are just a few of the main mobile devices that can use Jajah Mobile Web: Blackberry, Treo, iPAQ, Smart phones by Motorola, Nokia, SonyEricsson, Samsung…

You have to have a web-enabled mobile (cell) phone or PDA to use this service as well as a service plan.

Jajah Calling Rates

To check out the rates before making a call just visit the Jajah website and enter the country you are calling from and then the country you want to call. Rates are given from landline and mobiles. Calls between Jajah registered users, landline to landline are free.

To give you an example, at the time of writing it would cost 2.5p per minute to call an Australian landline from a UK landline.

Jajah’s website often talks about saving on international phone calls, but in fact you can use their service for local, national and international calls.

Tweet to initiate a free call using Jajah

Jajah now have a service called Jajah@Call (not open to all members), however, if you are a member you can initiate a free call to another @Call member by Twittering. Works whichever way you send your tweets.

The service is still in Beta, but you can make a free two minute call. You can see if you are able to use the new service by logging into you Jajah account, then go to My Services, and then My Account. If you see Twitter Calls then you have access.

The structure of the tweet to initiate the call must be as follows: “@call @twittername”. Replace twittername with the username of the person you want to call. Your phone rings and then the call is connected.

Calls can only be made to people who follow you on Twitter.

Jajah has been bought out by Telefonica, the Spanish telecom giant which operates as 02 in the UK, for €145 million.

Jajah give cheap phone calls by sending calls over a voip network. For the moment it will continue to run as a separate enterprise, so keep using Jajah to make those cheap phone calls.
