Jaxtr lets you connect from your landline or mobile phone to other landline phones internationally for the cost of a local call. They do this by providing a local number for you to call for free between supported countries (over 50 countries currently available). You pay your mobile or landline phone provider for the cost of the local call.
You have to register the phone you will be dialling from on their website, then store the local numbers provided in your phone to reuse whenever you need to. So once you’ve accessed the Jaxtr website to initially generate the local number there is no need to do so again for the same number, only if you wish to dial someone new. No software to download.
Comes with a local Jaxtr number that people can dial to contact you and a voicemail box to receive messages if you’re unavailable. If you receive a message you will receive a notification by email and you can listen to your messages online.
Cheap International Phone Calls
Using the local numbers provided by Jaxtr you can call any landline or cell phone (mobile phone) across the globe using your existing telephone. Alternatively, you can also have Jaxtr call your phone and then connect you to the number you want - there is an extra charge for this service.
Most main cities are covered with over 150 toll free numbers worldwide, and all numbers are published on the Jaxtr website.
If you are calling a mobile phone number, there is also the option of dialing the access number and waiting, rather than entering your phone number. In this case an sms containing an access number will be sent to the person you want to speak to, enabling them to call you back using the same low cost method.
It’s free to call other Jaxtr users and you can either purchase credits on the Jaxtr website to enable you to make cheap international phone calls or subscribe to their monthly payment package. There is a small connection fee of US$0.016 on all calls.
I have to admit that I didn’t find Jaxtr’s website and service the easiest to use at first, but they do boast over 10 million users.
There is a Café Jaxtr page which is basically a way of finding contacts and networking with other people, you can also import contacts from email clients in order to invite your friends to become members.
There is sms to Jaxtr members and you can send text messages to over 150 countries – there is a charge for this.
