Jumblo is a voip system that offers cheap phone rates internationally and for certain countries you can call landline phones free of charge. There are various ways of using the service but the two main ones are to either download their voip software and call from your PC, or enter both phone numbers (your own and the destination number) into their website, Jumblo will then call your phone and connect you.
In order to sign up and create an account (whichever way you want to use the service) you first need to download the software. Then you need to add credit to your account – any credit added will not expire. You can also take advantage of their 3 free minutes to sample their service before signing up.
The voip application is Windows only compatible, however, there is a solution for Mac or Linux users. If you download any Softphone application you are then able to subscribe, and there are clear instructions on how to do this in the Jumblo FAQ.
The phone to phone service works with any type of phone – home or mobile, as do their access numbers. Search for the access number on the Jumblo website for the country you want to call, then dial that number followed by your destination number.
As usual Jumblo to Jumblo calls on the PC are free of charge, Jumblo also offer cheap sms rates, and there is a choice of languages for the Jumblo voip software.
To make dialing easier and shorter, Jumblo let you add your area code to your account details. Once you’ve done this you only need to dial the actual phone number if you’re calling within your local area.
Rates are quoted in Euro cents per minute, although you do get a good choice of currencies in which you can view the rates. Calls are rounded up to the next minute. There are no other hidden charges.
Free calls with Jumblo
Certain destination countries are free to call to a landline phone and some even have free calls to mobile phones too. There is a fair usage policy on these countries just to stop people abusing the system. You have to first add credit to your account in order to make free calls.
At the time of writing some of the countries listed for free calls are: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Spain, UK and the USA.
