Cheap phone call providers...
Rebtel
• Use This Service To Call: Internationally.
Rebtel can be used to dial from both landlines and mobile (cell) phones and boasts some of the cheapest rates available. It works with your current carrier or phone line provider and there is no software to download and no pin numbers to use. The service is for dialing international numbers, and you can dial other Rebtel users internationally for the cost of a local call. Their website is in English, Spanish, Polish and French.
To use Rebtel you must first create an account, log in and add credit to your account (you do get a one free call to try out their service). On the Rebtel website you have to enter the international phone number that you wish to call and you will then be provided with an alias of this number. This alias is permanent and you can use it every time you want to make a call to the phone number that it applies to.
Using that alias you can make a call from any landline or mobile (cell phone) and you don’t need to go back to the Rebtel website unless you want to obtain an alias for a new number.
Free International Phone Calls
Even better, if you get your friends and relatives abroad to also subscribe to Rebtel you can call each other internationally for the cost of a local call (this service is only available between certain countries). All you need to do is call someone’s Rebtel number, tell them to call you back on the number that appears on their phone from you (your Rebtel number). They need to hang up to make the new call back to you, but you stay on the line (don’t hang up) and shortly the person you originally phoned will appear on the line after redialing. The Rebtel part of this call would be absolutely free, but you would pay local rate charge from your normal phone provider. There is a video of this process on the Rebtel site to help you to understand the system.
There is a clear list of call rates to the many countries that you can phone using this service, as well as a useful drop-down list for choosing the country your dialing from and to, so you can see the calling costs. This drop-down list also highlights in blue those countries where free calling is available (remember it’s free with Rebtel, but you’ll be charged the local rate by your mail call provider).
Free Android to Android calls with Rebtel’s New App
Rebtel’s new app for the Android lets you make free Android to Android calls as long as both phones have the app installed. There is no need to be in a wi-fi zone and works between approximately 50 countries. Neither is there any need for hanging up and calling back as the app manages the call connection.
Rebtel Calling Rates
Calling rates are extremely competitive, for example, at the time of writing, you could dial from the UK to Australia for 0.016p per minute, and from a mobile the cost would be 0.129p per minute including VAT.
You can view the call costs in any of 20 different currencies. They accept membership from people living in about 50 countries including the UK, America (USA), Canada, Australia and New Zealand, many European countries and several South American countries (check out the Rebtel website for the latest list).
Don’t forget that you will always be charged the cost of a local call from your main telephone provider, plus the cost of the Rebtel call. Having said that, you will still make big savings on international calls by using the Rebtel service.
If you have a service package with your main call provider that gives you free minutes then those free minutes will apply to any call which then goes on through the Rebtel system – meaning the only charge you will incur will be the Rebtel charge (this applies to mobile (cell phone) free minutes too).
Rebtel also offer sms to other Rebtel users, either sent from their website or from mobile to mobile.
