Cheap phone call providers...
Skype
• Use This Service To Call: Internationally.
The most popular VoIP software available, and probably the best. Make free internet calls to any other Skype user any day or time. Make cheap local, national and international calls to landline and mobile (cell) phones. Pay as you go, or subscribe and pay monthly. Subscribe to one of Skype’s packages, and you can nominate a country to which you can make free landline calls. Comes with IM, SMS, voicemail and personal phone number.
Skype has millions of users! With Skype it’s easy to find contacts, add people to your address list and make free Skype to Skype calls over the internet. It supports video, so if you have a video camera connected to your computer people you call will be able to see you as you talk, and of course vice versa, if your caller also has a camera.
Skype’s Subscription Choices
You can pay-as-you-go with Skype to take advantage of their low cost calling rates, but they have very good value subscriptions, and if you call one country in particular these are worth looking into. For different subscription costs you can choose from Unlimited Country, Unlimited Europe or Unlimited World. So for example if you subscribe and pay a monthly subscription of less than 4 euros a month you can call landline phones in your one nominated country for free, at any time of the day or night. Likewise if you pay a little more and subscribe to Unlimited Europe you can call any landline phone on Skype’s list of European countries for free.
Get an Unlimited World calling subscription from Skype from $9.95/month
These packages come with a free Skype number, which means that your friends and family can dial from a normal phone, mobile or Voip software and get through to you on Skype (on your computer). Voicemail is also included so you can receive messages from callers if you’re out or your computer is switched off, and you can record your own message. Skype To Go (also included) lets you use Skype from any phone or mobile by dialing an access number first. There is a local operator charge and you do pay Skype’s low rates for these calls, but it’s a great service if you travel a lot. Finally, call forwarding is also available.
Using Skype you also have access to instant messaging (IM) too (free to use) and SMS (not free, but usually lower rates than your normal mobile phone provider charges) and you can include your mobile number in the sms.
You can choose the language when accessing Skype’s website and the currency that you want to deal with. There are also special business packages.
Skype Cordless Phones
If you prefer to use Skype from your landline, rather than from a PC, you can also buy a cordless phone with Skype built-in which means you can do just that. Buy Skype hardware now and get Skype Pro for free.
Skype on Mobile Phones (Cell Phones)
Skype is now available for mobiles which means you can download Skype software to your mobile (cell) phone (as long as it’s compatible) and access Skype’s free and low cost rates when dialing from your mobile. You can call Skype users at the cost of a local call from your mobile, or make cheap international phone calls. There is a separate review of Skype’s mobile service: Skype Lite™ and of Skype for the iPod and iPod Touch.
