Cheap phone call providers...
Truphone
• Use This Service To Call: Internationally.
The Tru App is a mobile voip application that lets you call other Tru users, GoogleTalk and Skype users for free and it gives cheap international call rates, and when abroad you can avoid expensive roaming charges by accessing a wi-fi network. The software works worldwide, whatever country you’re in and is compatible with Android, Nokia, Blackberry, iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
You can save money by making cheap international calls to landlines and mobiles, and if you don’t have access to a wi-fi network, you can still save on international calls as Tru will route the international part of your call over the internet – you pay for the local part of your call and a low cost rate for the international part. They also have Tru – a SIM card giving cheap calls and no roaming in supported countries. There is the usual voip application for computers too.
Tru Calling Rates
There is a choice of subscribing to a monthly package or going with the basic TruStandard option. TruStandard is pay-as-you-go, there is no subscription, you simply have access to cheap international call rates as well as the free calls to Tru, Skype and Google Talk users.
TruUnlimited
The subscription package gives you cheaper international mobile phone rates. With TruUnlimited you pay $12.95 per month and get unlimited international mobile calls to landline phones in 38 countries and unlimited calls to mobile phones in 9 countries (including the USA and China). There are no restrictions on the time of day you can call and the deal covers all days of the week. There is no contract and you can cancel at any time.
The maximum length of a call is 60 minutes and the total monthly usage limit is 3,000 minutes.
The Truphone website gives up-to-date information on the countries that are included in the TruUnlimited Plan, but some examples are UK, USA, Canada, Australia, most western European countries, Israel and Argentina. Their website also gives all the rates for both subscription and pay-as-you-go deals.
Free IM with Tru
Truphone software lets you IM your friends on Skype, Google Talk, AIM, MSN and Yahoo! for free. This means being able to stay in touch with all your friends and relatives on different systems all from the one Tru application. Of course, you can also send your Twitter updates too.
Compatibility
The Tru app is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Nokia, Blackberry and Android. Note: with the iPod Touch and iPad you always have to be in a wi-fi zone to make calls.
Not all Nokia phones are compatible, so please check out the Tru website to make sure your Nokia phone is compatible before downloading the software. Also the Tru void calling (Wi-Fi calls) is not available with all of the supported Nokia devices. Again the Truphone website has the latest information.
The Tru website gives a very good breakdown by each device that it works with. For example, if you have an iPhone you can quickly see how the application will work and how to install it.
Tru – Formerly Truphone Local Anywhere
Basically Tru is a SIM card for your mobile which lets you call other mobiles and landlines cheaply. This means low-cost and free local and international calls using both wi-fi and 3G anywhere in the world.
At the moment direct dialling from your mobile is supported in the UK, the USA and Australia, and to do this you need to have a Tru SIM card in your mobile. Tru are currently working on expanding their network to Spain, Netherlands and Hong Kong, with the next set of countries in their sights being France, Germany and Italy, with Tru saying that by the end of 2011 they will have local rates and local numbers in 20 countries.
In the last few months Tru have simplified their product structure and pricing plan. Now you have two options, to pay $15 a month for membership, and that gives you local rates in their supported countries (currently UK, USA, Australia). Option two is to pay-as-you-go, and this gives you local rates in your own country with Tru’s standard rates in all other countries – Tru’s standard rates are cheaper than normal mobile phone calls, and also cover SMS and data transfer.
Cost of Tru
To use Tru you must buy their SIM card, but you can keep your existing number and it will function in any unlocked phone. The Tru membership pack costs $29.99 and comes with one month free access to local rates and credit of $15. You also get cheaper roaming rates in over 220 countries which are not directly supported in the Tru network.
No roaming fees with Tru
If you have a smart phone this means that accessing your emails and browsing the web from your mobile when you’re abroad will not incur huge fees as you won’t pay roaming charges – you will pay Tru’s local rates or standard rates, depending on which plan you have.
Likewise, receiving calls when you’re abroad will not cost you extra if you have a Tru SIM card that has a mobile number from one of Tru’s supported countries.
Tru Business Solutions
Tru now offer the same package for businesses, with deals focused on small, medium and large companies. They offer one global mobile phone contract, and means that employees can travel abroad without incurring roaming fees.
