A VoIP application that you need to download to your computer and, providing you purchase credit, you can make free calls to landline phones in approximately 25 countries. You have to register to use VoipCheap, calls to other VoipCheap users are free. The software requires Windows although there is an option to register for a Mac version.
There is a maximum of 300 minutes per week of free calls. If you don’t use your allocated free calls for the week they can’t be carried over to the next week. If you exceed your allocated free call time then the calls will be charged at normal VoipCheap rates. Once you’ve used up your free call time or it’s expired, you need to purchase credits in order to get more free call time. Purchased credit does not expire.
Some of the countries where it’s free to call landline phones include: UK, Australia, New Zealand, Spain and the US.
VoipCheap is available to use with certain SIP devices: routers, analogue telephone adapters, and modems. There are full instructions on the website on how to set this up.
There is a phone to phone option which you must log in and initiate from the VoipCheap website, but then VoipCheap will call your landline and then call the destination landline so you can talk from your regular phone whilst saving money on the cheap call rates that VoipCheap offer.
VoipCheap calls from your mobile phone
By adding your mobile phone number to the VoipCheap website in your personal details you can use access numbers to then dial directly from your mobile. This means you can use your VoipCheap credit to call from your mobile.
