Cheap phone call providers...
Voxofon
Use This Service To Call: Internationally.
Voxofon is a low-cost phone service for making international calls directly from your mobile or landline, as well as from a computer. The mobile voip version works on any handset that has internet access including Android, Blackberry, iPhone, Palm Pre and Windows Phone 7. You get a free test call, there are no monthly fees, and rates start as low as 1 cent per minute.
Dialing from a Smartphone
When you install Voxofon on your handset you need to give it permission to access the internet. When you make an international call, Voxofon is activated and gives you the available options to make your call over the Voxofon network. These options could be to call a local number or to set up a call back, for example.
Voxofon uses your data connection to establish the connection to its own network, which takes a few seconds. Once the connection is established you will pay Voxofon’s cheaper phone rates for your international call. It’s important to see the Voxofon application before you make your call as this indicates that your call will be routed over their system.
You can save on roaming charges when abroad by using Voxofon’s call back system which is the easiest option, or you can by a local SIM card in order to call in the usual way.
The Voxofon website gives clear instructions on how to use its app on all handsets.
Dialing from a Landline or Mobile Phone
Using Voxofon to dial directly from a regular mobile phone is different than when dialling from a smartphone (dialling from a landline phone and a mobile phone uses the same process).
In fact you have a few options.
- Using ‘Voxofon Express’ you can create a unique local number for each one of your contacts, and use this number when you want to dial them rather than their usual phone number. Store these express numbers in your phone and when you dial you will be connected to Voxofon’s network and therefore make cheaper calls.
- Once you have created an account with Voxofon, you can make calls from any phone by dialling the nearest access number to your location. This gives you access to a Voxofon operator. There is no connection charge, you are given 30 minutes free call time, and this service works in many countries.
- If you want friends, relatives or clients to be able to call you from abroad cheaply, you can set up virtual numbers with Voxofon that your friends, family or clients can use to contact you.
- If you have an internet enabled mobile phone you can access the Voxofon website. Login to your account, choose one of your contacts and call. You will be charged for data traffic for navigating to the Voxofon’s website, but Voxofon’s web pages are optimised and load quickly - they are usually between 1 - 10Kb, so you can check the cost of this transfer with your mobile provider beforehand. Once your call is connected, you will pay Voxofon’s call rates.
Be careful using this method when overseas, as you will incur roaming charges from your mobile service provider.
Calling when overseas
If you are abroad the cheapest ways to use Voxofon to make calls is to use a local phone to make the call, go to Voxofon’s mobile website with your mobile phone, or setup a phone-to-phonecall from a local phone to the phone number you want to call.
The Voxofone call rates are certainly very cheap, starting at 1 cent per minute. Their website provides an easy form to check exactly how much your call will cost by selecting your country and then the country you want to call. Registration required? Yes, you need to register.
