18185 is an over-ride telephone provider that lets you make cheaper telephone calls to UK and overseas numbers when dialing from the UK (you cannot use this service if you live outside of the UK). You have to sign up to use the 18185 service and have a debit or credit card so that they can bill you. Once you have registered you simply dial 18185 before the telephone number.

Because you have to set up an account to use 18185 you only need to remember one access number – 18185. You always dial this same access number whichever country you’re calling, so this service is very easy to use.

Their website has a very good price checker, so that you can enter the country you wish to dial and see exactly how much the international call will cost before you dial.

There are no monthly costs or minimum fees and you can keep track of your calls and expenditure by logging in to their website. There is a connection fee, but only for calls made within the UK.

My line was registered with 18185 but since changing my services to Tesco Total broadband from separate phone and internet from Tesco, 18185 has been blocked.

Some of the over-ride cheap calling services only work with a BT line, however 18185 work with other line providers and they have a special page on their website about it. They don’t mention Tesco Total specifically but do give special access numbers if you’re not a BT customer: http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php

If you still have trouble, make sure all the phone numbers you are calling from are registered with 18185 and speak to Tesco Total about why the access number is blocked.
