Free Skype to Skype Calls with 3G on the iPhone

The latest Skype app for the iPhone now lets Skype users make free calls to other Skype users over a 3G connection. Previously you had to be in a wi-fi zone to make free calls to other Skype users.

Skype for the iPhone

Skype will eventually charge for the 3G service connection although what those charges will be is not yet known. Depending on the package that you have with your mobile provider you may also incur an additional charge for 3G data traffic. If you’re within your data transfer rate or have a plan with unlimited data traffic then you won’t incur additional charges.

The Skype app works with 3G and 3GS iPhones. It also works with the 2nd and 3rd generation iPod Touch, although of course you have to be in a wi-fi area with the iPod Touch to make calls.

With the latest upgrade, call quality has also been improved.

The new iPhone which runs OS4.0 makes it possible for Skype to run in the background meaning that you can leave Skype and and use other apps when making a call.
