Localphone now have an iPhone app. Localphone is a great service for making cheap international phone calls to both landlines and mobiles.

With the new app you can access your contacts and call rates on the move and make calls more easily directly from your iPhone as well as sending cheap SMS.

Localphone give you a local number for each or your contacts, so you can make a locally charged phone call directly from your mobile or landline phone and reach your friends and family overseas for a fraction of the usual cost.

As of January 2012 Localphone have updated their iPhone app, and new features include:

Two calling modes – WiFi/3G or local numbers
Using the LOCAL call mode means calls are made using a local number which connects to the international contact so you pay Localphone’s low rates plus the mobile provider’s local rates (which are often included in free minutes). By tapping the call mode during a call you can switch to WiFi/3G mode and calls will be made using the internet connection. This means you won’t have to pay the local charges just the international rate, which will save them even more money. Users can switch easily between the two call modes during a call.

Other features include:

• Free credit when you share Localphone. Get your referral bonus when you tell friends about the app via email, SMS or social networks
• View your call and text history. Keep track of account activity
• Help Centre. Get answers to frequently asked questions directly in the app
• Send SMS. Send international text messages at our cheap rates
• Rates at your fingertips. Check call and text rates to any number or country
• Your contacts on the go. Manage your Localphone contacts through your phone and import existing numbers
